Haute couture ball auctioned for the benefit of Rugby au Coeur

Here is the new project with a societal dimension carried by Rebond. This time, the Loire-based brand has turned its attention to the creation of its first rugby shirt-ball. The emblematic jersey of the French Barbarians is the starting point for this unique piece. The top-of-the-range handcrafted creation should enable Rugby au Coeur to raise new funds to finance solidarity and inclusive projects.

Rugby at the heart of the French Barbarians

The Barbarians started out as a historic gentlemen's club created by Oxford students. In the same spirit, for the love of rugby, the French Barbarians were created in 1977. Since then, far from the spotlight and the cameras, far from the economic pressure, the Baa-baas - all players in the French championship - meet a few times a year to play a match or a tour, against international teams, with the pleasure of playing as their leitmotiv.

Now a mythical and original club, the French Barbarians are driven by the idea of fraternity. Officially invited to their matches, the Baa-baas share with this symbolic team all but their socks - the only apparent reminder of the club in which they play all year round.

It is the French Barbarians jersey, which glorifies the authentic values of ovalie, that has been chosen by the Rugby au Coeur endowment fund. Rebond has created the prestigious object which will be auctioned off during a gala evening. Chaired by Jean-Pierre Rives, former French international, winner of two Grand Slams and faithful defender of the values of his sport, Rugby au Coeur is an endowment fund initiated by the France 2023 Organising Committee in order to encourage projects with a high social added value. The organisation supports solidarity, responsible, inclusive and convivial projects in the fields of education, health and equal opportunities.

Ball born from the Barbarians jersey, a unique and responsible piece

"The result of a joint reflection between Rugby au Coeur and Rebond, this is the first time the French brand has created a rugby ball from a shirt. We had developed this principle on a round ball with the collaboration with PSG, and as a former rugby player, it is an honour to make it happen on an oval ball, especially around this mythical jersey and for this great cause. At Rebond, we always pay particular attention to quality and detail; the making of this haute couture item required between two and three hours of work. We hope that it will be the fruit of a beautiful endowment for the Foundation" - Simon Mutschler, founder of the Rebond brand.

In order to highlight the jersey and its symbols, the Rebond team has chosen an old balloon format, composed of 8 panels instead of the 4 panels we are used to.

This balloon is hand-sewn in the Rebond workshop based in Loire-Atlantique. A real work of art. Discover below the video presentation of the project and the manufacturing process.
